Downtown Los Angeles is rich with history, and we at Blu Jam Café are excited to be part of it. The revitalization of #DTLA has been in full-force for a several years, but it seems this past two years has seen a boom in construction and rehabilitation.
We are proud to announce that Blu Jam Café, too, will be part of the rich history of downtown Los Angeles, and at the forefront of rehabbing the historic Spring Arcade.
The Spring (or Broadway) Arcade building— a three-level glass-roofed shopping arcade connecting two twelve-story office towers— opened in 1924. It’s beauty is partly defined by intricate Spanish Baroque terracotta arches that rise up over the arcade entrances, along with a Venetian-style bridge that spans the center of the arcade.
According to WIKIPEDIA, by 1977 it was in full decline, and in 2012, A reporter from the LA Times noted that many of the stores were vacant.
However, since the resurgence of the downtown scene, the Spring Arcade has been making a comeback, slowly but surely.
We are so excited to help speed things up a bit by making the Spring Arcade our newest home. On June 6th, 2017, Blu Jam Café will open its doors inside the historic building as a mainstay anchor.
We will bring the Blu Jam experience— fresh, local, and amazing food— to the businesses and residents of downtown. And our goal is not just to open another restaurant. Our goal is to help resuscitate the Spring Arcade and uplift this once-iconic neighborhood and breathe new life into the area.
Please join us on June 6th in celebration for our grand opening at 541 S. Spring Street as we pave the streets with Crunchy French Toast from Woodland Hills to Downtown LA.
